For a little under two hours tonight I was taken on a magic carpet ride (much like Jazmin in Disney's "Aladdin") with Wes Anderson, George Clooney, Bill Murray, and Meryl Streep! Impossible you say. Well my friend then to you I have but one thing to sing, "I can show you the world!"
My magic carpet tonight was the new Wes Andersen movie, "Fantastic Mr. Fox".
Amazing! I can't begin to tell you how much I enjoyed It. It was quietly hilarious and loudly brilliant. Sure I laughed, but mostly I just grinned! I had fun. Can you remember the last time you just had fun watching a movie? Let me tell you a little about the story.
Mr Fox (Voiced by George Clooney) is a chicken thief by trade. A good one that steals with style. Similar to that of Danny Ocean. He is forced to give it up for "personal reasons," and is then in a constant spiral of boredom and fatigue. The only antidote is thieving once more! Well he bites of more than he can chew and enlists the super cast listed above. Lets just say Hi jinks ensue!
As I mentioned the film is brilliantly funny. I smiled more than I laughed. The dialogue is some of the best Wes Anderson Stuff I have ever seen. But what do you expect when you have a Roald Dahl story to work with!
One key element to the movie that I will relish in for a long time is the use of the word "curse" and "cuss" in place of f-bombs and other swear words... hard to understand? Let me give you an example of dialogue between Mr. Fox and Badger(Bill Murray):
Mr. Fox: I understand what you're saying, and your comments are valuable, but I'm gonna ignore your advice.
Badger: The cuss you are.
Mr. Fox: The cuss am I? Are you cussing with me?
Badger: No, you cussing with me?
Mr. Fox: Don't cussing point at me!
Badger: If you're gonna cuss with somebody, you're not gonna cuss with me, you little cuss!
Mr. Fox: You're not gonna cuss with me!
As I said before this film is filled with genius conversation that is worth rewinding to catch correctly. Let me share one more line, I'll allow your imagination to build the scene.
Ash: "You should probably put your bandit hat on now. Personally, I- I don't have one, but I modified this tube sock."

Now if your not grinning you just wont get it and you should probably never see this or any other Wes Andersen movie... well you can if you want but you might be intellectually over dressed for the occasion.
All in all if you enjoy watching awkward conversation and think talking animals always improves things, "Fantastic Mr. Fox" is your cup of cider.
