Utah Basketball
Have you ever been walking down the street, and hear some good news that's good enough to scream for joy? Well that just happened to me when I heard the latest news headline.
Today Fox Sports reported that Jim Boylen the coach of the University of Utah basketball team has met with Iowa University for a possible head coaching position. Some of the things that Jim has to look forward to if he decides to leave and take the position are as follows.
#1 he is going to be in the Big 10, which is a stronger conference, and BCS eligible, which gets a lot more media attention and has their own network (which is much like the Mountain Network). #2 he will get a lot more money for recruiting. For instance, let’s just say that Utah's recruiting allotment is $200,000, Iowa being a bigger name, bigger conference, and greater exposure would give something like $1,000,000. Of course, these figures are not the actual set in stone figures but you see the point. More money in turn allows for better recruits and a better chance to get to the big dance.
Honestly if I knew where Jim lived, I would be over at his house packing his bags for him! Utah since he has been here has gone 56-42 overall, with a Mountain West Conference Championship in 2009 and a first round loss to Arizona in the NCAA tournament. Should we as Utah fans be disappointed with his coaching? The Utes suffered 17 losses this year, which marks their second worst total in the last 20 years. We haven't won the big games when we needed to i.e. BYU and New Mexico, and to be honest the games are flat out boring to watch. If the ticket office is charging more than 50 cents a game, it's too much. It's painful to watch the 5 on 5 half court, 1985 style basketball. Where's the highflying dunks and buzzer beater 3-point plays that we all love to see! Utah basketball is worse to watch than a 6th grade Jr. Jazz sprintathon.
I couldn't be happier for Boylen to leave and I hope that he doesn't let all of us Utah fans down by staying!
To better days on the court!
GO UTES!
