They could be somebody. They could be contenders.

Let me tell you a story. It's actually more of a recurring nightmare. It's a story of a young boy who always had a dream. The dream was everything to him. he breathed it, slept it, and lived it. when the leaves on the trees would change from green to red and orange, the the dream grew stronger. That dream was to see BYU in a national title game, and that boy was me... or maybe I should say IS me.
You see that dream never really died. Sure I can hide it a little better now. I no longer weep every Saturday that doesn't end in a victory. I don't have ridiculous superstitions about being good and obedient so the cougars will win.
Dreams are OK though right? I mean where would we be without Columbus's dream of sailing across the ocean to Asia? Where would we be without Edison wanting to see his way to the powder room in the middle of the night. Or the wright Brothers... I hate flying, it terrifies me to the point of wanting to cry like a little girl in pig tails so maybe not them... but everybody else that has changed this world because of a dream they had started with opposition and overcame it. Threw hard work and perseverance. Bravo Edison! Bravo Chris! (oh and i guess a small "thank you" is due to you too Wright brothers...thanks.)
These dreams were fulfilled, so why not mine? Why can't BYU win ANOTHER national title? Or Boise State? TCU? Or even UTAH(did I just say that)? The point is they are being held down. They are being forced to take the proverbial "DIVE".

THEY ARENT BEING ALLOWED TO CONTEND.

Thank you Marlon. I couldn't have said it better myself.
I'm Talking about the BCS! I know, kicking a dead horse and all. Well hear me out. Let me tell you how It should be. Then I'll stop kicking.
Obviously a playoff right? well sorta.

1st Every conference has to have at least 12 teams. (the NCAA enforces this. More like divisions and less like conferences) This allows for a conference championship. Which would still be done just like the big 12 or the SEC.
2nd, Every conference champion is in the playoff.
3rd, then are five wild card teams. These are the highest ranked non conference champions.
4th, Seeding. Before the season starts cities bid to be one of the four cities where the playoff is played(much like the Olympics) One of those four gets the Final Four and the National Championship. After the cities are selected the conferences are randomly placed into the four brackets... so one year the SEC, BIG EAST, and the WAC could be seeded in one city. And the next the SEC might be with the PAC 10 and the MWC. Get it? The point is the selection is made before the season starts so it's totally random.

A few other rules that I would like to see to keep things interesting.
1. a team is only allowed to play one 1-AA team every two years.
2. the conference(s) with the most wild card entries split a bonus.

All in all I hope one day a small boy in Fresno can see his Cinderella story Bulldogs take the title to the greatest game ever played. Dream big small Bulldog fan. Dream big.
