These are all phrases I have said at one point or another during a Jazz game... unfortunately not in a long time.
Right now the Jazz sit at the fourth spot in the west after routing off a huge 13-1 run back in Jan/Feb and have a real good chance of staying there or moving up to the 2 or 3 spot in the west before the playoffs. That's terrific! Neat-o guys! This is a real good club- lots of talent, well coached(love him or hate him J. Sloan has these guys believing right now) and FINALLY chemistry that has been promised for the last three years. So what would put us over the top? What makes us "Contenders"? The answer my friends AIN'T blowing in the wind! The answer does includes de-sissifing the current Jazz men, but they can only do so much without a leader. I'm not talking about a TEAM leader, that's D-will's gig. What I'm talking about is a Captain of Violence! I'm talking about bringing someone mean onto the Jazz. Someone that has a bad rep around the league for being violent (do you think there is any gas in Dennis Rodman's legs?).
Let me list a few names who fit this criteria of nastiness. I'll start with one that took us to the conference finals a few years back... D-Fish(if you didn't tear up a little just now your a stronger man than I am). I loved Derek Fisher. He was the hot stuff in the Irish coffee of the Jazz! He made us tougher. He made us fighters. I miss him.
The next guy I might get some heat for...Joakim Noah. Say what you want but the guys a fighter. He just seems like a brawler. He plays ugly. Seriously, He has a nasty looking shot, he's a distractingly low jumper, and he's not quick. But he's a gamer! I think in a set up defense like Utah's that doesn't rotate too well, he would be a nasty body to give some hard fouls while giving ten and twelve and almost two blocks a game.
What do you get when you add a sprinkle of finesse to strength and power? Answer: Kevin Love. Yea I know, he's a franchise player... But come on use your imagination!
I love watching him play. He seems to pick up more aggressive moves each time we've played him! He has a back to the basket game that thrives on double teams. His quickness is great! And he's a team guy that sticks up for his team on the court.
And finally who doesn't love the Birdman, Chris Andersen. He's a pest. He's Ugly, and he seems to be everywhere. Plus I just like how nobody likes to play him. Seriously.
Whether it's the Birdman or Love the Jazz need some more violence out there. I'm not gonna lie, I'd like to see some blood.
Here's to adding VIOLENCE to the roster next year.
