NFL Team Spotlight - Browns
The Cleveland Browns are a team that I do not believe in at all! In my opinion they will be fight for the number one pick next year. The only hope this team has is for Brady Quinn to step up this year… oh wait a minute that’s right they traded him to the Broncos and now they have Jake “Too Old” Delhomme and Seneca “Back-Up” Wallace! Oh boy Mike Homlgren is building a real winner now! Seriously this team is a train wreck and there is not one player they can draft that is going to change that. If I were picking for the Browns I would strongly consider trading down, to help obtain more draft picks. They have needs of DBs, OLs, DLs, LBs, WRs, and oh yeah let’s not forget QB. Their draft should be focused on defense seeing that they boasted the leagues worse defensive units (with regards to statistics).
I doubt that Browns will read this blog and therefore they will not trade down from this pick. I would expect them to look to the secondary. Before the Combine I would have picked Joe Haden from Florida; however, he only ran a sub 4.5 in the 40 yard dash and that is not fast enough to justify that high of a pick. The only player available that is considered an elite talent would be Eric Berry from Tennessee. So I believe that they will select him with this pick.
Now if it were me this is what I would do; trade down to the 15-20 in the first round and pick up another 3rd round pick or possibly a 2nd round pick. Then with my pick I would hope to land a good Inside Linebacker in Rolando McClain from Alabama or Sean Witherspoon from Missouri. If neither of those players were there I would then take Earl Thomas (Safety) from Texas. Then with your pick in the 2nd round they could potentially land a Jerry Hughes (OLB) out of TCU or a Patrick Robinson (CB) from Florida State. That way they would land two starters and still have 2 more picks within the 3rd round to pick up more potential starters.
