NFL Team Spotlight - Raiders
I want to start off by saying that there is no way to predict what the Raiders will do in the draft because their Owner/GM Al Davis is a few fries short of a happy meal. Before I go any further you need to watch the following clip of when the Raiders were about introduce Tom Cable as their new head coach:
Was it just me or did Al Davis really just say that he doesn’t know that much about Tom Cable?!@! This is your HEAD COACH!! This guy is going to make or break your team! You should know him better than you know your own mother! Now that you can see how out of touch Al Davis is with his football team you will better understand why it is so hard to predict who they will draft. Last year they took Darius Heyward-Bey with the 7th overall pick! Old Darius was projected at best a late 1st to early 2nd round pick! Al Davis took him that high because he was the fastest Wide Receiver in the draft.
The area they need the most help in is the Offensive Line. So the logical pick would be Trent Williams from Oklahoma; however, nothing the Raiders do is logical. For that reason I will project the Raiders taking this year’s version of Heyward-Bey… drum roll… Bruce Campbell from the University of Maryland. Campbell posted some of the most impressive numbers for an OL at this year NFL Scouting Combine. He is a freak athlete but never produced great results on film. Most analysts believe that he is 1 to 2 years away from being able to start. He would be a great fit on my Cowboys team because they have enough depth to allow him the time he needs to develop. That is not the case with the Raiders, they need someone to come and contribute from day one and Campbell is not that guy.
