Mike James wants to come to Utah.
Breaking News, according to ESPN's Chris Sheridan, Mike James, the veteran guard who happens to be a free agent, would love to play for the Jazz and Coach Sloan.
"Mike James wants to play for the Utah Jazz," Sheridan posted this statement on his Twitter account late Thursday night, and further stated. "He told me so while playing golf at Bethpage Red Course, for his charity foundation." Chris Sheridan also states, "James turned down offers to play European ball in Italy and Spain after taking a buyout from his contract with the Washington Wizards last spring."
James started 50 out of 53 games for the Wizards last season, and averaged 9.6 points and 3.6 assists, and also stroked 36.7 percent from 3-point land. James is 6' 2" and has been in the league for nine years, which is attractive but the bad thing is he is 35 years old. That's ancient in the league. But James states on his website that he is "often underestimated", and dubs himself as "the triumphant underdog." Both bold statements for the old timer.
With the additions of Al Jefferson and Raja Bell, the Jazz roster currently includes nine players with guaranteed contracts and needs to fill four more spots to meet the NBA requirements of 13 before the beginning of the season. With Fez potentially coming back, I don't see this deal happening. Not only do we not have the cap space for James but he is a huge risk to us, due to his age...but would bring experience, and veteran leadership.
KOC I believe will pass on this deal because it doesn't really get us any closer than we already are to beating the purple and gold.
