BYU/UTAH REMAIN FAITHFUL? (THANKS SPENCER!)
FROM TIME TO TIME WE GET GREAT ARTICLES EMAILED TO US OR FACEBOOKED (IS THAT EVEN A WORD?) TO US. WE REALLY LIKE IT SO KEEP IT UP!
IT WAS RECOMMENDED BY FRIEND OF THE CAVE; SPENCER WINEGAR. THANKS SPENCER.
*ALL ABOUT THE BYU/UTAH BASKETBALL REVELRY AND HOW THE NEW CONFERENCE ALIGNMENT WILL EFFECT IT!
THE WRITER ANDY KATZ IS A GREAT WRITER WHO HAS A LONG HISTORY WITH ESPN AND PIN POINTS THE REVELRY'S FUTURE...A MUST READ IF YOU HAVE AN INTEREST IN BYU/UTAH BASKETBALL OR JUST THE REVELRY IN GENERAL!

No reason Utah-BYU rivalry can't continue
Utah's decision to leave the Mountain West for the Pac-10 might be the least surprising of any of the potential realignments moves.
For decades, the Utes have fancied itself a more elite program than its conference rivals. Academically, Utah wants to be closer to the programs in the Pac-10 -- and the Utes have always tried to be more West Coast-centric than intermountain.
Plus, the Pac-10 will always be more glamorous overall than the Mountain West, even after a season in which the MWC grabbed four NCAA tourney bids to the Pac-10's two. That was more cyclical than the norm.
So the move isn't a surprise. But the most distressing part of the split from the MWC will be... [CLICK TO CONTINUE]

Kansas, Missouri, and Kansas State to MWC?
The Star Telegram a Texas newspaper is reporting that with the changes that are coming to the Big 12 and the Pac-10 that 3 teams will be left out. Those 3 teams are Kansas, Missouri, and Kansas State. In the article it states that these school being left out would "potentially join the MWC".
In my opinion this would do wonders for the MWC. Just this past week we added Boise State, which will help the boost the football programs of every school. If they added these 3 schools it would put the MWC at 13 teams. That is one more team than the SEC! It should be noted that these are 3 school with good athletic programs. Kansas and Kansas State will help change the landscape of the MWC mens basketball programs. Last year Kansas State showed just how good they have become in recent years and Kansas is a top 25 program year in and year out. Missouri has a better football program than basketball but they would provide a lift in both categories.
Here is a little video from ESPN that helps to make since of all of the moves that are potentially going to take place:

O.K. Mike, we get it, your fast!
BYU insider Jay Drew of the S.L. trib, dives deeper into the lose of M. Loyd Jr. from the Cougars basketball team....
"Dismissed BYU basketball player Michael Loyd Jr. is known for his speed and quickness. The 5-foot-11 guard often zoomed past opponents late last season to create easy layups and dunks for himself and teammates.
Turns out, Loyd's excessive need for speed isn't limited to the basketball court... " - Jay Drew
So the kid likes to drive fast... so what! (Yea, I know that there is substance violations as well, I was being sarcastic... GOSH!)
eh, Whatchya gonna do? You win some, you lose some.

Fredette decides to stay in school
This should not come as a surprise as Fredette really hurt his draft stock in his last game against K-State. He showed an inability to create his own shot and looked average at best. Had he played better in that one game I think he would have stayed in the draft and could have been pick in the bottom of the 1st round.
Bad news for the UTES!

Utes Off and Running Again??
Jim Boylen

Exhibit-B: The Players Boylen has driven out of town.
Carlon Brown
Jordan Cyphers
Matt Reed
Exhibit-C: Potential Solution in JUCO transfers
Will Clyburn, Jay Watkins and Tyler Kupets
Maybe these three can help turn the Utes into winners next season??!!!

Rise and Shout!
The Cougars are out! And so are plenty of other college football programs across America. For a lot of teams, today and next Saturday are spring games/practices that are open to the public!
I will be headed down to our own "Happy Valley" to take in all that I can to try and hold myself over till Fall!
I will be giving a detailed report when I get back but as for now I'll let you know what I'll be looking at.
D- line: As mentioned in the S.C.(Sports-Cave) "stat of the day" a few days back, BYU lost the entire starting d-line. UN-believable. We do have some returning missionaries and a few that got some PT last year, but this will be a huge point of interest.
QB Battle: Jake Heaps and Riley Nelson! Wow! A QB battle at BYU! This hasn't Happened since John Beck earned the starting job while still under Gary Crowton! I know everyone thinks this is Heaps Job, he being the highest rated QB ever to come to BYU (Save that good for nothing Ben Olson!), But I really think it's Riley's job to lose. His agility, athleticism, speed, and accuracy make him a huge commodity. On the other hand having one of the top ranked QBs out of high school riding the pine or red shirting might just be plain dumb!
There are a few other points I will be looking at (Hopefully an improved corner situation), but I can barley type a strait line I'm so excited. So until tonight...

Playing The Odds

Do you enjoy a good competitive game of "Texas hold 'em"? How about a quick shot at "21"? Or maybe your weakness is the "slot machine"? The many games of chance are a great way to lose a few bucks and maybe enjoy yourself for a very short while. Just about everyone has thrown a few bucks towards the Nevada education fund in the form of a casino game right? RIGHT! It's even safe to say that more than a few folks have bankrupted themselves via the city of sin. Well what I want to discuss over the next few posts and perhaps sporadically over the life of "THE CAVE" is the purest form of gambling(oxymoron anyone?)... sports gambling.
This is such an interesting business to me. Obviously anyone that follows sports tightly has tried to predict a game here or there and has been correct, perhaps maybe even against the odds a little bit? I know I have and it is an absolute rush! Correct predictions breed confidence, and a sports gambler is born! From this point, it usually only takes one winning bet to create a BEAST! This is a tough habit to break no matter how strong you think you are. My disclaimer: Stay away from it! That being said, lets talk about what I believe is the moment one decides to give up a chunk of change.
All of us have been there. You are chatting about some up coming games and someone brings up "the line" on a game and you stop, mentally grab onto that information, put it through your sports betting computer and the output... "Vegas has that one wrong! I could bet this one!". Real technical huh? Yea, your mental computer is more in tune than hundreds of odd setting criteria put together over decades of number crunching! That's believable. "But they missed on this one!", you tell yourself.
That's what bookies all over the world have made trillions off of..."They missed on this one." That phrase has made many casino owners rich men in the bright lights of Sin City. But why? Why can't anybody beat Vegas? How do they get that line to look so appealing?
We'll that my friends is what interests me so much about sports betting... the criteria used to place odds.
We've all heard them occasionally let out by an odds setter or a "sports betting aid website". Things like "they are 1-12 when crossing two time zones on a back to back." or "they are 13-0 when playing at home after a bye week." I love these stats! They amaze me! Anybody can take the average points of every player on two NBA teams and make a estimate on who will finish with more points at the end of the night, thus winning. What is incredible is to take that but apply a stat like, the second time a team faces Paul Milsap in a season he averages almost 6 points fewer than the first time they face him. That's huge!

That is why the odds makers are so amazing to me. The criteria used is so much more in depth than anything we could imagine. I'm not a betting man, but I am a stats man and that is why "odds" interest me so much.
In short,
STAY TUNED! THERE IS MUCH MORE TO COME!
